Brummie Of The Month

April’s Brummie of the month is a gorgeous singer from Walsall (not exactly 0121 but we’ll take her under our wing).  She has featured on Drake’s recent EP ‘More Life’ performed with him at one of his London o2 Arena shows for his ‘Boy Meets World Tour’ came fourth in BBC music sound of 2017 and has accomplished all this plus more by the age of 19. Guessed who it is yet?

Yes! the soulful singer Jorja Smith has taken the Brummie crown this month. Jorja kicks off the FIRST show of her tour at Birmingham’s o2 Academy TONIGHT! Then all the other cities linger on after us. (See why she’s Brummie of the month now).

The Smith wave began last year with the release of ‘Blue Lights’ which speaks on police injustice and received a 2016 MOBO nomination for ‘Best Song’. The wave did not stop there and has been riding ever since, with festival bookings, magazine articles, radio appearances and more songs smashing YouTube views. Oh and did you know that the video for ‘Where Do I Go’ was filmed on Jorja’s Aunties banister, directed and edited by the Midlands beauty and received over two million views. Amazing right?

Jorja Smith is definitely the one to watch out for in 2017 her unique powerful voice and strong messages in her songs will take her places. Just to prove our point a little more here is the visual for her recent track ‘Beautiful Little Fools’. Written at the age of 16 and inspired by the book ‘The Great Gatsby’ where she speaks on the restrictions that society and established social constructs place upon women.
